Recently I have been learning more about the construction of period style costumes and there undergarments. One piece of garment in particular which is something called pockethoops. Woman used to wear pockethoops underneath there petticoats, more often than not these where used as a hidden handbag. There petticoats would have slits inline with the pockethoops underneath allowing access to store items within. Not only where they great for storing items but it also gave woman a fuller figure, making there hips have more shape.
I got the chance to make a pair of pockethoops of my own, following traditional sewing methods I found it quite challenging. Part of this garment has boning within to give its shape and structure. I found putting boning in at a curved angle was quite difficult but very effective.
