Textile Pockets

Now that I am finished with college Im thinking about It more than ever. But the thing I am thinking about most is one of my final pieces, my Textile Pockets, I am so found of them I just like knowing that I could never have ever made anything like this if it wasn't for my 3 years at Dundee College. Don't get me wrong there was many days where I wanted to give up as it took me a while to actually understand what textiles meant. When I made these pockets its as if the penny finally dropped. I always wanted to make a finished piece that was wearable, that's what was in my head no other way but I tell you making these was a breakthrough.

Finally "going with the flow" is what my tutor said when I was working on these, she was happier than I was to see that I relaxed and just let my creativity take over. Would you believe that the research that was done before making these was of butterflies ? my whole inspiration was images of butterflies. Looking at there colours, textures how delicate and how beautiful there are, some having unusual patterns on there wings.

I dyed fabric using the colours from the images along with some printing, one image had spots which I fell in love with so using that I created a pattern using lino. Originally I was going to make a book and these were the pages but seeing how interesting they looked I just left them to pin up like wall pockets.
