Storage Pull Bag

I know my page is named Sewyourlife up and that my first post was infact nothing to do with sewing. But using the first post will help you with the next. which is or course a sewing project.

Using your pre printed fabric we are going to create a medium size storage pull bag, i'm using my to store my wool. Don't know about you guys but I have so much I don't know what to do with it all.

For this sewing project you will need a sewing machine and some basic sewing equipment, plus your pre printed fabric, If you are not too keen on printing your own fabric feel free to use what ever you wish.

Tools and Equipment

 Sewing Machine
Fabric
Scissors
Thread
Knitting Needle

When sewing a bag normally it is right sides together to then fold inside out and have neat edges on the outside, for this project I am going to show you how to do a French seam so the instructions may look abit strange at first. I haven't given measurements as this is open to change, this is just simple methods to help you along with some sewing skills.

Step One

Take two pieces of fabric both the same size and place them wrong sides together, this means you will be able to see the pattern of your fabric, if you are using a plain colour then it doesn't matter which side you start with.

Once in place start from the top of one side using your sewing machine do a straight stitch down the side.

Small tip, when you get near the edge of the bottom of your fabric stop leaving your needle in the fabric, lift your foot turn the fabric and continue sewing. this gives you a clean continuous stitch and is easier to control.

Should look like this

Step Two

Now for the French Seam.

Once you have completed your sewing take your fabric scissors and cut away any extra fabric along your seam. Now its time to have a go at sewing a French seam. Turn your bag inside out making sure all sides are flat.

Once you have done these few steps we are now going to stitch down the edge of the bag. You can feel the seam that is on the inside of your bag, we are going to stitch along that edge so where the edge of the inside seam is you will use a straight stitch all the way around your bag.

By doing this you will have a perfect seam on the inside and out, so there is no need to make a lining.
Turn to the right side and should look like this.

Step Three

We are now going to create a top seam and an easy way to fasten your bag.
For this you will need a semi thin width of fabric your choice to how thin but I would suggest to make the length twice as long as your bag so there is room to fasten it.

First we need to make our seam at the top to feed our fabric through. Simply fold over your fabric at the top however wide you wish to make it and do a straight stitch along the top.

It should look like this.

Time to make your length of fabric. Simple fold you length in half and do a straight stitch along the edge. Once sewn simple cut away any extra as you don't want your strap to bulky as it makes it more difficult to feed through.

Now comes the stressful part, well I find it stressful cause I do not have any patience.
Once all these steps are completed its time to turn your fabric to its right side.

It should look like this.

Step Four

Take your scissors and cut two small holes at one of the seams at the top of your bag, this is so you can feed your fabric through. The reason I have put a knitting needle as something you will need is for this bit. Feeding fabric though can be very time consuming and quite difficult, using a long poll to help feed it though will keep you sane I know it helps me.

By the end your bag should look like this. I am using mine to store my wool but you can use it in whatever way you wish.

Thank you for reading.
