This is a small tutorial on how to lino print. Its fairly simple to learn and very easy to create a repeat pattern.
Tools and Materials needed.
Sheet of Lino
Lino cutting tools
Pencil
Blocking Printing Ink
Roller
Plastic Tray
Fabric/Paper
Step One
Tools needed - Lino, Pencil and Lino Cutters
First you need to decide upon what kind of design you would like your print to be, I have chosen to do a very simple flower print. Once you have drawn your chosen design take your lino tool and begin to cut away at the lino around the outline of your drawing. Being very careful as these cutters are very sharp.
Step Two
Tools needed - Block Printing Ink, Roller Plastic Tray and fabric/paper
Simply put a small amount of block printing ink onto your tray and roller out to an even amount. Please only use a small amount as it is very tacky and can create a messy finish if there is too much on the roller. *Tip is to have a sheet of paper to roller any excess ink off.
Time to now roller your ink onto your cut out piece of lino, and now to place the lino onto your chosen fabric or paper. *Tip is to also have a clean roller to press down once lino is in place, helps create a better finish.
Here is my print.
You can leave it as it is or experiment with colour and layers, I decided to use two more colours and overlap my print to create some movement and to make it a little more exciting. Lino is such an easy way of creating a unique print and easy enough to make another if the first isn't right.
Here is my edited print
Thank you for reading.
